Why We Do It

The picture above is of someone who is terrified—and rightfully so. That was me: newly charged, completely unfamiliar with the justice system or the prison system, and searching desperately for anything that could help me make sense of what was happening. From the moment I was charged until the day I was sentenced, 20 long months passed. In that time, my mind ran wild with every possible scenario. I scoured the internet—hungry for answers, terrified of the unknown—hoping something, anything, would give me clarity about what I was facing. But 99.9% of what I found wasn’t real or helpful. It was dramatized, misleading, or built on stereotypes that offered no real preparation or peace of mind.

I consumed it all: every podcast, every YouTube video, every documentary and show that even remotely touched on the court system or incarceration. I watched LockUp, listened to Ear Hustle and Uncuffed, and sat down with people who had spent serious time inside. Still, nothing truly prepared me. None of it explained the day-to-day realities, the mental toll, or the overwhelming logistics of preparing to walk through a process that so few talk about with honesty. The fear didn’t subside—it only grew. I realized I wasn’t alone in this experience, but I was alone in the lack of real, grounded, human guidance.

Another Day Down was born out of that void. I created this because I lived it, and because the one thing I needed more than anything—a trusted voice to walk me through it—didn’t exist. This platform is what I wish had been available to me: a place that tells the truth, provides tools, and centers around empathy. If you're facing incarceration, you're not just a case number or a headline. You're a human being walking through one of the most uncertain and isolating experiences imaginable. Let me be the guide that I never had. Let Another Day Down be the light in a system built to keep you in the dark.
